Agriculture began to flourish with crops such as tomatoes, celery, and citrus fruits. Thanks to its climate and irrigation, by 1948, Vista was known as the "avocado capital of the world".
The in post-war years, following World War II, housing began to replace agriculture. Vista was incorporated on January 28, 1963. Today, Vista’s business park is home to over 800 companies, one of the largest in the nation. In 2019, Vista had a population of 100,686.
